![]() ![]() ) In the dialogue segments, Lara's interactions with non-player characters affect the course of the plot only in very limited ways. During several levels you play as Lara's new partner/rival, Kurtis Trent, which is refreshing at first but becomes frustrating during certain boss battles, where Kurtis handles like a tank compared to Lara's APC. These seem like great ideas but weren't all that well executed. Other new features include a second playable character, a limited dialogue system and ability upgrades for Lara. There are a few new moves and modified mouse-look, which unfortunately doesn't always function as it should. The control system has also been revamped-though not necessarily for the better. Lara's character model is much more detailed, smoother and more realistic than before. Scenery is less blocky and there are plenty of lovely things to look at. The Angel of Darkness was the first part in a planned trilogy which was never completed. They succeeded in some areas but failed in others. It's clear the developers took some risks, tried to build in some new features and tell a complicated story. Although the game was fraught with technical problems, and some players took issue with the sinister turn the plotline took, AOD is not without its supporters. For critics, as well as many fans, it signaled the end of an era. The Angel of Darkness was released in mid-2003, two and a half years after Chronicles. The door at the end of the hall is timed, so run through the darts and jump over the spikes (even just touching them will mean instant death). Pull a lever on the right wall (at the entrance) to open a door at the end of the hall.as well as starting another booby trap. You'll eventually reach a booby trapped hall. With a more powerful Lara, continue through the tunnel. There you'll find an underground tunnel, along with a door that Lara can bust down (with some goodies behind) that increases her strength. Take Lara back to the bottom and drop into the trap door. Pull the lever, opening a trap door at the bottom of the tomb. Use the new platforms to go upwards again where you'll find another lever. Along one wall is a small crawl space with another lever-pull it to reveal more platforms along the walls of the tomb. Make your way all the way down and avoid the skeletal enemy as best you can-it'll revive if you take it out with gunfire, so it's best to just run away. Pull the lever to reveal even more platforms that will grant Lara access to the lowest portion of the tomb. Continue along, moving downwards, and as you reach the final platform you'll find a lever on the wall. The next platform has a statue in the way, and instead of climbing over it you'll have to shimmy under to reach the next platform. From the side with the health pickup, jump to a platform on Lara's right. You'll reach a broken bridge, and on the other side is some health. You'll end up on a platform from which you can make a couple of jumps to safer grounds.įrom this tunnel continue down to a lower part of the cylindrical tomb. ![]() After the brief cinematic display of the tomb has run, climb down the face of the wall. You'll need to climb down to the bottom carefully to move on. Lara's next obstacle is the Tomb of Ancients, a large, cylindrical tomb with a very deep bottom. ![]()
